Open Door Art Studio & Gallery

Empowering Artists Through Creative Expression, Representation, and Community Partnerships Since 2007

At Open Door Art Studio & Gallery we believe that all artists deserve a creative space where they can develop unique artistic voices and access opportunities afforded through the arts. By providing individualized support, we empower artists to achieve their ambitions through community partnerships, creative expression, and representation.

Community Partnerships

We strive to introduce the artists we represent to community arts organizations and immerse them in the broader arts community. Through demonstrations, discussions, community exhibition opportunities, on-site art-making, organizational partnerships, and art venue tours, our artists feel the warmth of their surrounding creative community.

Creative Expression

We provide the opportunity for the artists we represent to freely create in a professional art studio. We believe that every artist deserves the freedom to discover their own artistic voice. Through guidance and technique-based instruction, a staff of trained artists promotes individual artistic growth.

We believe that artists thrive when exposed to opportunities afforded through the arts. Community and in-house exhibition opportunities allow the artists we represent to share their artistic achievements with the greater Columbus community and beyond.

Artists can take advantage of our spacious studio space, fully equipped with a framing station and large format mat cutter, high-resolution photographic printer, pottery wheels, and weekly scheduled kiln firings, among other offerings. Work alongside the artists we represent and make a difference in their lives in an environment of creative cohabitation!

What is expected of our AIR?

  • While selected AIR will have 24/7 acccess to our facilities, they are required to commit to a minimum of 2 hours per week to work alongside the artists we represent during Open Door Art Studio & Gallery programming hours (Monday – Friday, 10:30a to 4:00p).
  • AIR will be expected to facilitate one Artist Presentation, Artist Talk, or Technical Demonstration during the ten-week residency. This should take place during programming hours for the artists we represent.
  • AIR should create a body of work based on their AIR Exhibition Proposal. This body of work will be featured in a month-long exhibition on display in Open Door’s gallery space.

AIR will be selected by a panel of Open Door Art Studio & Gallery represented artists, and officially accepted by the Open Door Art Studio & Gallery team. Selected AIR is expected to provide all necessary art-making materials to complete their body of work and will be required to sign a contract confirming the duration and responsibilities of their residency.
